Penallta colliery closed in 1991 and while other collieries were being demolished, parts of Penallta were left to stand and become derelict. Now in 2004 the Penallta site is taking on a new life - a new community is being born : houses, shops and it seems that the existing buildings may be converted into flats/shops.
