This part of the valley is pretty much unspoilt, lots of countryside with many lanes to venture down. This painting shows Lower Machen, Machen itself being a mile or two to the left of the painting. A small and very tidy little Hamlet with Saint Michael's Church just visible amongst the trees.

The road on the left brings you into Draethen with its old stone bridge. Plas Machen farm is to the right amongst the fields, though just out of this painting.
